As an active boy born in South Africa, I had no idea that my first migraine - accompanied by the full array of severe symptoms - would go on to shape and change my life. Although I was an otherwise healthy and athletic seven-year-old, I had to begin taking migraine medication daily.
Continuing into my teens and 20s I swam, became a competitive surfer, a kitesurfer, played rugby, water polo and ice-hockey… but the migraines still occurred every 6-10 weeks with no apparent cause other than that they were hereditary.
While I was in my 3rd year at University, a close friend of mine in his 1st year at Chiropractic College suggested I become part of a final year student’s thesis on headaches and migraine. I knew nothing about Chiropractic but after three neck adjustments over 2 weeks, I have been migraine-free since. I was 24 at the time. The experience was literally life changing.
Chiropractic didn't cure me. It just aided my body to do what it has been designed to do; heal itself. By restoring function to the dysfunctional joints in my neck, the Chiropractic Adjustment prevented the migraine gene I was born with from expressing itself.
So began my incredible journey into Chiropractic and after twenty years in practising as a Chiropractor I believe beyond a shadow of doubt in the undeniable effectiveness of a Chiropractic adjustment. I want everyone I meet to know the beneficial effects of Chiropractic Care.
I am a product of the manual Chiropractic Adjustment and believe completely in its power and aspire to deliver that perfect Adjustment every time. In order to maintain the long term benefits of an Adjustment I also do a low force technique to that end. My focus is to find the restriction, restore and maintain function, then get out of the way to allow the body to heal itself.
Chiropractic was not my 1st passion; I was always a waterbaby (swimming, waterpolo) but surfing holds that crown. While I now kitesurf with that same drive, the passion I feel for Chiropractic excites and inspires me daily, and matches it in equal measure.
